Community News and Meetings

Holyhead now has three active local community partnerships thanks to the Welsh Assembly Government’s ‘Communities First’ programme. They are all established, non-profit making limited companies and between them employ over twenty staff working on a wide range of community regeneration activities. Four out of the six Communities First designated wards on Anglesey are located in Holyhead. A co-ordinator is employed by Anglesey County Council for Communities First, and is based at Holyhead Town Hall Plas Cybi Partnership Ltd
The Plas Cybi Partnership was formed by the merger of the previous Holyhead Town Ward and Maeshyfryd Ward Partnerships. They are based at Millbank Centre and at Bryn annex in Williams Street.  Examples of the many projects by Plas Cybi include the St Mary’s pre/after school club, the town centre flower beds/hanging baskets scheme,an environmental audit/strategy and community IT suite, and a Welcome Host training initiative. Morawelon and London Road Community Partnership Ltd (MORLO) – This partnership covers two wards on the east side of Holyhead, and have six members of staff. Morlo are based at the Gwelfor Community Centre in Morawelon. This was the first communities first partnership in Holyhead. Examples of the many projects by Morlo include a new Community Centre Community at the former Tile Centre, London Road, aCreche, and the Community Apprenticeship scheme. Porthyfelin Community Partnership Ltd – This partnership covers the ward of Porthyfelin on the north side of Holyhead, which includes the Waterside and Newry areas. Three staff are employed and are based at the Holyhead Town Hall in Newry Street. Examples of their projects include an outdoor activities training project a community audit, and an environmental strategy.
